A short, popular trek through rhododendron forest to Ghorepani and the sunrise viewpoint of Poon Hill, facing Dhaulagiri and the Annapurnas, often looping back through Ghandruk.
2–6 walking days · highest point Poon Hill 3,210 m · Easy · best months Mar, Apr, May, Sep, Oct, Nov · Start and end: Nayapul · Protected area: Annapurna Conservation Area
From Pokhara, drive to Nayapul or further up to Ulleri and walk from there.
Nights stay below about 2,900 m, so altitude is less of a concern than on the other treks here. In the monsoon (June to September) expect rain, leeches and slippery trails.
The Tourism Board lists this route only as part of "Poon Hill–ABC Trek"; it does not say whether Poon Hill alone needs a licensed guide. Ask a registered trekking agency.
Most of these treks go above 3,000 m. The US CDC advises: once above 3,000 m, sleep no more than 500 m higher each night, add an extra day for every 1,000 m you gain, never go higher with symptoms (headache, nausea, dizziness), and go down if they get worse.
